About The University of Georgia
The University of Georgia (UGA) was founded on January 27, 1785, by an act of the General Assembly. First publicly sponsored university in the nation. In 1804, UGA’s first class of graduates took their diplomas. In 1931, Georgia’s University System took control of the institution.
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited the university’s master’s, baccalaureate, doctorate, and specialised degrees (SACSCOC). There are currently 17 schools and colleges at the university running research and teaching programmes.
