NEET (UG) Now Mandatory for Allied and Healthcare Courses from 2026–27

A significant change is on the horizon for medical students. Beginning with the academic year 2026-27, NEET will serve as the basic eligibility test for admission to all Allied and Healthcare undergraduate courses.
The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) officially announced this modification.

Which Allied and Healthcare Courses 2026–27 will Require NEET?

Previously, NEET was required primarily for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and Veterinary courses. However, starting in 2026-27, Allied and Healthcare courses will be formally added to the list.
Thus, if you intend to pursue programs like:

1. Physiotherapy.
2. Occupational therapy.
3. Medical Laboratory Science
4. Image Technology
5. Cardiovascular Care Technology.

To apply for admission to several Allied and Healthcare programs, you must first pass NEET.

Why was this Change Introduced?

The NCAHP aims to:
• Standardise admission criteria throughout India.
• Ensure fair and merit-based admission to Allied and Healthcare courses.
• Ensure consistent academic standards.
Furthermore, the NCAHP announced that it has previously notified 11 core curriculum for several Allied and Healthcare graduate and postgraduate disciplines. Work is also underway to finalise nine more curricula, following which a comprehensive plan will be made public.
NCAHP’s circular clearly instructs educational institutions to ensure that students accepted to Allied and Healthcare programmes beginning with the 2026-27 academic year have taken NEET.

What Does it Mean for Allied and Healthcare Aspirants?

• Students seeking admissions before the 2026-27 cycle are unaffected.
• Students in Grade 10 or 11 pursuing these areas should include NEET in their preparation roadmap.
